How To Establish Rules While You Work from Home

Any dog owner will tell you that working from is anything but easy—mostly because their dog doesn’t understand they’re busy.

If your dog is giving you a hard time while you try to work from home, use the following tips to establish some rules.

 Schedule Playtime

Regardless of whether or not you have a dog or a child, time management is by far the greatest challenge when you’re working from home. Having children/and or a dog(s) makes things a lot more difficult.

Your dog doesn’t know that you’re not free to play when you’re sitting behind a laptop screen at the kitchen table; they just want to play. To stop your dog from distracting you, schedule playtime with them during the day to burn some of their energy.

Create A Separate Workspace

.Instead of sitting in a common room where your dog can easily walk in and demand attention whenever they feel like, create a separate, dog-free workspace where they can’t distract you.

Choose a room in the house to do your work and shut the door behind you so your dog can’t follow you in. As long as you spend some time to play with them during the day, they shouldn’t give you too much trouble.

Be Stern

Dogs with anxiety may resort to scratching the door, crying, and barking to try and get attention. Don’t give in! You need to let them know you’re in charge, don’t give them the power to manipulate you.

It may take a couple of weeks for them to realize that you’re not going to let them distract you, but they’ll eventually get the message.

Keep Them Occupied

Desperately trying to focus on a project while your dog continues to bark outside the door to try and get your attention? Give them something to do.

An anxious dog may resort to aggressive behavior like chewing the carpet, marking areas of the house, etc. To stop them from interrupting you, find ways to keep them occupied.

Give them toys to play with or hire a dog sitter or dog walker to keep them company while you do your work.
